Artist Statement Recently, my artistic sojourn has taken me into the 'World of Pristine Portraits' by substituting the flower as figure combined with the traditions of the still-life format. Digitally recording imagery in the camera-less (scanned) photograph. I use life's cycle of birth to death, looking at colors, shapes, forms and backgrounds to create a 'Pristine Portrait; reminiscent of individuals being symbolized by a particular flower or plant. Once recorded these images are enlarged and printed with pigmented inks on archival papers, averaging 30" to 45" in size. As colors and imags fade from vibrancy, wither and final decay they depict the passage of time and age ebbing away. The nature discolsed portraits hold a compelling compendium of familiarity, doubt and wonder. Most infulential in my artwork are my childhood memories and dreams. Four years as a refugee in the Displaced Persons Camp at the end of WWII and immigration to the USA has haunted my work. I was able to create a new inner world for myself. A more acceptable world of beauty and realitly found in the backyards and parks of Chicago allowed me to find the joy of making art. This meditation became a decision for my life's career to be an artist.
